Cancer patients are bombarded with information about what to eat and what not to eat every day. Many patients seek advice from coaches, friends, popular blogs, and holistic providers. Knowing what’s hype and what’s scientifically proven can be difficult and stressful. This session will break down some of the most talked-about controversies in food and nutrition related to cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship, and offer effective and evidence-based strategies to help you guide your patients in making healthy choices to live well every day.

Learning Objectives

After attending this session, nutrition professionals should be able to:
 

  1. Learn the current state of evidence for popular diets adopted by or promoted to oncology patients.
  2. Understand potential benefits and detriments of vitamins and supplements for oncology patients during treatment.
  3. Understand healthy eating and lifestyle suggestions for optimal cancer prevention, treatment support, and survivorship promotion.

Stacy Kennedy, MPH, RD, CSO, LDN, is a Board-Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, with over 20 years of experience, and American College of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer. She is a senior clinician at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School Teaching Affiliates in Boston, adjunct faculty at Simmons College, co-founder of her private practice, Wellness Guides, LLC, serves as a consultant and advisory board member for numerous start-up companies in the health and wellness space, and was recently Chief Wellness Officer for a Silicon Valley-funded tech company.  Stacy is a sought-after international speaker who is regularly featured in TV, film, radio, print, podcasts, online, and social media. Stacy completed her BS in Dietetics from Indiana University, and her master’s in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
